The International PLR Network meets every two years at a conference organised and hosted by a member country. The conferences provide an opportunity for PLR administrators and interested parties from across the world to exchange information on recent issues, discuss common problems and promote the development of PLR in new countries.
The 10th International PLR Conference will be held in Dublin on 26-27 September 2013. There will also be a day of social activities on 28 September for delegates able to stay on after the conference. More detailed information about the conference venue and hotels will follow soon. It will be hosted by the Irish PLR office with support from ICLA.
The 9th International PLR conference took place in Brussels 22-24 September 2011. It was hosted and generously supported by Reprobel, the Belgian collective management organisation for authors and publishers. 31 countries, the highest number ever, were represented at the conference. The conference received reports on the continuing problems in implementing PLR in countries such as Portugal, Hungary and Spain, and heard from a European Commission representative on the Commission’s current stance on PLR and finalising implementation of the 1992 Lending Right Directive. There was better news from countries like Australia and Denmark where well-established and well-supported PLR systems flourish, and from Poland, Cyprus and Greece where progress is at long last being made towards the establishment of PLR systems.
A series of European PLR seminars have also been held to bring together delegates from authors' organisations and other agencies with an interest in PLR. The latest seminar was held in Bucharest in September 2008.
