9.30 – 16.30 PLR as cultural policy: Four different models for using PLR to support and promote national culture and language.

A short presentation of the PLR-systems in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden
Is followed by a debate between a politician and an author from each country.

A book describing the four PLR-systems will be published as part of the conference
Material.

20.30 Reception at the National Library Authority.

9.30 – 13.00 Approaches to PLR, - the relationship to copyright:

In general the theory, by Helge Sonneland, Norway.

The Dutch scheme, by Andre Beemsterboer, Holland.

14.00 – 17.00 Where it all begins: from the author’s study to the library shelves – visit to the Karen
Blixen (Isak Dinesen) Museum and Danish public libraries.


Wednesday 10th September 1997

9.30 – 11.30 PLR and “new media”: Approaches to the introduction of works published on
CD-Rom, computer-discs, on-line etc. in PLR-systems.

11.30 – 12.00 PLR and educational lending rights in Australia by Paul Bootes.

12.00 – 13.00 PLR in the European Union by Carole Croella.

14.00 – 17.00 Visit to the Danish PLR office.
